Well, it's 1:54 am and I just got back from work in Boston. The city went mental for obvious reasons, but I'm still here and working on this blog post! I can honestly say that I never knew what I wanted to do with my life until this past year. Helping people become healthy with nutrition is important to me because my family and myself have always been healthy eaters and have always gotten the right foods and nutrients. It wasn't until this year that I realized how many people needed guidance with their choices. I want to work in a hospital or clinic setting, working primarily with pregnant women or children in pediatrics. I have also considered becoming a registered dietitian and that's what this job entails.
It is a job in Texas (a place I've always wanted to live) and it's at a medical center, or hospital. It has many job responsibilities and has focus areas for age-specific needs. There is neo-natal (birth to one year), pediatric (1-12 years), adolescent (12-18 years), adult (18-65) and geriatric (65+). The qualifications for this job include a:
A. Baccalaureate with major in nutrition, dietetics or a related field. Completion of an ADA approved internship or other ADA approved program.
B. Registered Dietitian or registry eligible; Texas Licensed Dietitian or eligible for licensure.
C. One or more years in clinical dietetics is desirable.
After completion of my years at Bridgewater, I'm going to go to graduate school and become certified as a Nutritionist or Dietitian which will make me qualified for this position

ReplyDeleteI complement you on your ambition to help other people. It is good to know that there are still some people with good heart! Most people I talk too about what they want to do after college always have the same answer “to make money”!
ReplyDeleteI’m always sad when watching some people eating habit. But again sometimes the bad habit began even before the person was born so I like your idea on helping pregnant mothers eating healthy. Eating healthy greatly decreases the risk of developing life threatening conditions. When we eat a high fat diet the fat that we take in can cause such conditions like heart disease, colon cancer, heart attacks and even strokes. According to an article I once read on line, the high fat diets cause the visceral fat to build up in our body and that type of fat is like a toxin to our vital organs. Eating diets that include foods that have a fat content of 7g or more is unhealthy. These foods include, fried food, food high in sugar, canned vegetables, and foods that are cooked in butter and salt.
If there is one of you in every colleges and University in America who graduates with the idea of helping others the United States would soon lose its leading in the world of obesity. Currently, according to the health journal America have the highest rate of colorectal cancer in the world; colorectal cancer is the fourth most common form of cancer in men and women. This type of cancer is more common in people over the age of fifty, and you can get this type of cancer by eating a high fat.
Keep up the good work!!
