Throughout the five weeks of this course, there were a few assignments that stood out to me as "highlights." The completion of my resume and cover letter was, to me, considered to be my best assignment because I feel I did them well from a design and content standpoint. I don't enjoy creating these tech. documents but I do enjoy doing them if I do them well (which I'm sure is true for all). I already had a working resume so I could easily build off of that to improve the quality and design to make it the best possible.
Another assignment I enjoyed completing was the flyer for BSU. I liked having the freedom to create it without any restrictions. It was a way to express what I enjoyed about the school and what I think the prospective students would enjoy as well. It was a little irritating to have to keep changing things around and rephrasing things but in the end it only helps, right?
One thing I really didn't enjoy in this class was the first assignment. I love writing, don't get me wrong, but analyzing a document's design is not my strong point. I can write about it all day but once it comes to actually analyzing why the creator does certain things, that's when I falter.
However, overall, I think this class was beneficial to me in a few ways. The main one being the resume and cover letter because I will definitely need each of these as my career presses forward and having both already started puts me a half of a step ahead!

Qualified!
Well, it's 1:54 am and I just got back from work in Boston. The city went mental for obvious reasons, but I'm still here and working on this blog post! I can honestly say that I never knew what I wanted to do with my life until this past year. Helping people become healthy with nutrition is important to me because my family and myself have always been healthy eaters and have always gotten the right foods and nutrients. It wasn't until this year that I realized how many people needed guidance with their choices. I want to work in a hospital or clinic setting, working primarily with pregnant women or children in pediatrics. I have also considered becoming a registered dietitian and that's what this job entails.
It is a job in Texas (a place I've always wanted to live) and it's at a medical center, or hospital. It has many job responsibilities and has focus areas for age-specific needs. There is neo-natal (birth to one year), pediatric (1-12 years), adolescent (12-18 years), adult (18-65) and geriatric (65+). The qualifications for this job include a:
A. Baccalaureate with major in nutrition, dietetics or a related field. Completion of an ADA approved internship or other ADA approved program.
B. Registered Dietitian or registry eligible; Texas Licensed Dietitian or eligible for licensure.
C. One or more years in clinical dietetics is desirable.
After completion of my years at Bridgewater, I'm going to go to graduate school and become certified as a Nutritionist or Dietitian which will make me qualified for this position

Collaborative Project
For the collaborative project, my group was assigned "Memos, Letters and Emails. My task was to research how to write and format a correct email, and then create a series of powerpoint slides to explain to the class exactly how to write one. So what I did for this was I took what I already knew about emails (seeing as almost everyone I know has written at least one email in their lifetime. Then, I took what I knew, researched formatting techniques and applied them to my presentation. I found that a lot of the information was "common sense" for lack of a better term. For example, it's not proper to write an entire email in capital letters, unless the title is something like "URGENT" or "NOTICE" but usually those involve scamming emails.
I ended up having about 7 slides worth of material that was divided into sections so I could easily explain each in my presentation. I also included images/graphics and some bolded terms to try to focus in on the importance of it. I feel like I covered most of the formal email section.

Sources
For the second essay of this short semester, I've decided to use a few primary sources for the flyer but I feel as if a combination of primary and secondary sources would work best. You can talk with students to get their actual opinions on questions you need answered, and it will be the honest truth. Of course, surveys and questionnaires are perfect for guided opinions but it's necessary to reach out beyond that and, if possible, go to various friends or students blogs, facebooks, or any other accessible site to get a real feel for how they view the university.
I've decided to come up with a set of interview questions to ask some of my friends about the school. What I decided would be best is if I choose various groups of friends (i.e. athletes, greeks, etc). So, I've pulled together a set of about seven or eight specific questions to be answered about our school. At the end of this set of questions, I give the person an opportunity to add in whatever he or she would like to contribute.

Eng 201: Technical Writing
As I was reading the different assigned readings for class, I really was intrigued by the details of designing. During class, I heard that designs that are put together well, aren't noticed. I took this and I really thought about all the different things I've seen that I haven't looked twice at for design. I can't believe how much I'm beginning to realize the detail that goes into our everyday documents and even websites. I've seen some websites with horrible placement for fonts and alignments but I wouldn't have seen it before and I wouldn't have picked it apart like I do now. I really enjoyed reading about these minor details that actually play an extremely important role in the design of a website.
