Throughout the five weeks of this course, there were a few assignments that stood out to me as "highlights." The completion of my resume and cover letter was, to me, considered to be my best assignment because I feel I did them well from a design and content standpoint. I don't enjoy creating these tech. documents but I do enjoy doing them if I do them well (which I'm sure is true for all). I already had a working resume so I could easily build off of that to improve the quality and design to make it the best possible.
Another assignment I enjoyed completing was the flyer for BSU. I liked having the freedom to create it without any restrictions. It was a way to express what I enjoyed about the school and what I think the prospective students would enjoy as well. It was a little irritating to have to keep changing things around and rephrasing things but in the end it only helps, right?
One thing I really didn't enjoy in this class was the first assignment. I love writing, don't get me wrong, but analyzing a document's design is not my strong point. I can write about it all day but once it comes to actually analyzing why the creator does certain things, that's when I falter.
However, overall, I think this class was beneficial to me in a few ways. The main one being the resume and cover letter because I will definitely need each of these as my career presses forward and having both already started puts me a half of a step ahead!
I agree with you about the first assignment! I too, I didn't like it a bit! it was too complicated and I actually didn't know where to began and once I began I found myself confuse about what exactly I need to bring my focus to. Like you design is no my thing. Hopefully you can hold on to the things that learn in the class. It’s been great! I now, feel extremely confident on how to write a resume and cover letter thanks to the class. However my weakness is still on the writing but I’m sure I I’ll get better at it over time!
ReplyDeleteMelissa it is great that you are thinking about what skills you took from the course and how then can impact your education and career. The resume is an immediate tool that can help you. Also, even the things you didn't like, helped build your skills.
